Few areas can boast the quality and variety of shopping
that is afforded to us here in Leigh. The bustle, the
warmth and variety of individual boutiques with their
own flair and individuality reflects the personality
of Leigh itself. Not for us the soulless multinationals
(not to say that Woolworths departure has left a bit
of a void), and we have Leigh Council to thank for that,
coupled with the entrepreneurial spirit of the Leigh
Traders.
This
is truly an Alladin’s Cave of variety and
quality of fare. There are designer clothes, trendy
affordable clothes and shoes. Specialist shops that
cater to sports and pastimes, fabulous furniture incorporating
the full range from traditional to cutting edge design.
The number of antique and gift shops, galleries, bookshops,
and art and craft shops reflect the deeply engrained
artistic nature of Leigh, which is so proudly displayed
annually at the ever expanding Leigh Art Trail. You
will never go hungry when taking a wander down the
streets of Leigh, with the plethora of Deli’s
, quality butchers, greengrocers , bakers, the
only thing missing is the candlestick maker! With
the ever evident credit crunch, there has been an
emphasis on “shopping local”, and this
is being supported by the Leigh Council “Good
for Leigh” campaign, which as residents and customers
is a principle we should fully endorse. So go take
a stroll down our lively shopping streets, meet up
with old friends and new and enjoy what Leigh has to
offer.
