Leigh North Street Junior School is an LEA school maintained by Southend Borough Council for approximately 360 pupils aged 7 - 11. There are 12 classes in the school; three classes in each year group.

Leigh North Street Junior School

The first Leigh Primary School was organised by Dr. Robert Eden (Rector of Leigh) in 1847 and was situated on Church Hill. The current premises in North Street were taken over in1899. There are now twelve classrooms grouped around a central courtyard, a Hall and additional rooms and areas for Special Needs, Food Technology, Music and Computers. The Scarnell Suite houses the ICT network and is a recent addition to the facilities. The main entrance to the School is situated on the North side from Pall Mall as shown in the picture above. The School Office is in the south side of the building, next to the North Street entrance. Outside facilities include an open-air heated swimming pool, a small playing field and a quiet area within the playground. A wildlife garden/environmental area is under development .

Our mission statement

‘‘Achievement for all’’

ensuring the best for all pupils by exploring their full potential in all areas.

Our School strives to provide an excellent all-round education for its young people. It is proud of its tradition as a thinking and caring community and works to develop skills and open minds with on-going challenges and investigations.

Our School is a community School and we endeavour to foster links with local organisations.

The School enjoys a close working relationship with Leigh Infant School maintaining both curriculum and social links. Close links are also maintained with local Secondary Schools. This helps to ease the trauma that may result from changing schools.

Parents are encouraged to participate actively in their children’s education. There is also a thriving Parents’ Association that works hard on behalf of both Leigh Schools.

Many former pupils have returned to the School and shared fond memories of their schooldays. We intend to ensure that future generations continue to have the time of their lives at Leigh North Street Junior School.

A detailed prospectus can be obtained from the School Office.
