Hi
pet people
This is Winston my 12 week old labradoodle.
We have just had our first outing together at Edwards Hall Fields in Eastwood which was very successful. However I would like to take him to puppy classes for socialising with other puppies and to brush up on basic training methods.
Can you recommend a good local class that we could attend, I am home all
day as I am retired so any time would be suitable for me.
Many thanks
Jenny (jenny.ayling@sky.com)

How's this for a handsome chap ? His name is Taz and can often be seen cycling through the woods at Belfairs. He is a rotti ridgeback cross and favourite hobbies are eating, sleeping and trying to catch squirrels.
We are looking for a partner to keep him company during his latter years. ?

Hi,
We have nine week old staff and would like to take him to socialization
classes. Does anyone know of somewhere not too far from Canvey Island
that they could recommend.
Thanks

I have recently purchased a
Shar Pei and he is an adorable little thing. I have tried in a number of
book shops to buy a manual for his breed to no avail. He has been moulting
for 5 or six weeks and looks really patchy. Is this normal he is 5 months
old? Thank you

Hi
Just come across your website when trying to find doggie info about Leigh.
We are coming to visit relatives over the bank holiday weekend and are
trying to find out where we can walk our 7 month old Hungarian Viszla near
Leigh or surrounding area. She is very energetic and really needs to run
free. she is well behaved and will return on command- she also loves the
water!
If anyone could let me know any good walks, places to go for the day where
we can take the dog, pubs etc which are dog friendly in Leigh or near by
that would be great.
Many thanks

BEWARE!
I feel that I must write to tell you that on Saturday 3rd February my dog (19 month old red setter) was attacked by what we think is a cross breed. The woman (assumed owner) was walking out with two dogs one Labrador off lead and the cross breed on lead. Our dog was off lead playing with the lab, when she ran past the other dog and it lashed out viciously and bit a hole in her side. We had to take her to an emergency appointment at the vet where they kept her in and had to give her a general anaesthetic and clean up the wound, which required 8 stitches. My husband was walking her at the time, and didn't get the other woman's details, as his primary concern was to get her back to the car and to the vets. He was about 15 minutes from where the car was parked.
Obviously this is most inappropriate and our dog has under gone a lot of stress, and will no doubt become anxious when around other dogs. She is not allowed to do any off lead exercise for at least 14 days whilst her stitches are in, and in addition to that I will be missing 2 dog training sessions, which are not cheap, and neither was the vet bill.
I wondered if you could place this on the site for people to be aware of this other dog, and also if the woman in mention reads it and comes forward to pay for the vet bill.
Faith Horsley (contact via leigh-on-sea.com)
In response to this item we received the following mail: I
live in Australia where there are a number of dog attacks each year.
Although I do feel for you being a pet owner myself however, you did
mention that your dog was off the lead as was her other dog the lab
but the dog that actually bit yours was still on a lead, making me
think that she knew the dog could be unpredictable. Although if this
is the case she should put the said dog in a muzzle but on the other
hand the dog was on a lead whereas yours was running around all over
the place playing with the other dog. Your dog probably went too
close to the lady and the other dog being pissed off that it couldn’t
join in the fun lashed out. Let’s face it if it had really wanted to
go to town the attack would not have finished with just one bite.
Maybe look a bit closer to home as to who wasn’t controlling their dog
appropriately that day.

LOST CAT

Male short hair cat. Mainly black back and around the ears, black tail, white belly and legs. He also has a very distinctive black “mole” on his right nostril. Green-eyed. 14years old.
Last seen walking towards homes in Leigh-on-Sea, off Leigh Broadway during the early evening. He has been very unwell of late and has recently suffered from two strokes. It may be that he has forgotten his way home or has been hurt.
He answer’s to the name of “Maano”.
He has been with me since he was a kitten and it is distressing to think he may be lost, hurt or injured. Please help me to find him.
If anyone has recently acquired or been offered or seen a cat fitting this description please contact Maliha on 07944711676 or 01702478568 or email mppurewal@yahoo.co.uk
Any information leading to his safe return would be most appreciated.

Here is a picture of Harry my 5 year old black labrador retreiver. He is known by a lot of the dogs over two tree island and of course their owners. He is a very friendly dog and lives for his walkies. He is usually accompanied, 50 or so yards behind, by Jenny an 11 year old rescued Yorkshire terrier. Don't forget to say hello to Harry when you see him.

Hi
I wonder if anyone could help.
I have two Latino cockatiels. They are about 7 years old and I am not sure if
they are male or female (although we called them Punch & Judy).
Unfortunately, due to a change in circumstances, I can no longer give them the
time and attention they need and I am looking for a good home for them.
I have moved house quite alot over the last few years and they have become
wary of leaving their cage. They do sit on the top of their cage and walk
about the room but because they do not fly much their wings are weak. They
could really do with someone who lets them out more and I am sure their wings
would get stronger.
They used to sit on my hand, feed from my hand and fly about most of the day
but because I no longer have the time for them they have become very wary.
When I moved to my last house Judy started to pull out some of her feathers.
I took her to the vets who treated her for mites just as a precaution. Once
she had settled down she stopped doing it but the feathers have never grown
back.
They have a large cage (big enough for 3 cockatiels) with plenty of toys, a
ladder and perches. The top opens up, and there is perch at the top, which
they love to sit on. They seem to enjoy it when I put their cage in the
garden (although I don't get much time these days).
I would really love to give them to a good home, someone with more time. If
you think you may be able to help or know of anyone who might want them please
could you contact me on matt.carjam@dsl.pipex.com

Hi,
Myself and my husband are looking for a companion Jack Russell Bitch Puppy for
our other dog. We live in Leigh and would like to know if anyone knows of any
good breeders in the area. I am from Dublin and in my view Leigh is the perfect
place for dog walking, you have Hadleigh Castle, 2 Tree Island and of course the
seafron. But our dogs favourite is her daily swim at Chalkwell Pool near the
bridge.
Thank you for your help.

Hi,
If you could post this on your website I would be most grateful. I am looking for the
right home for my cockatiels, as i have started working full-time and they are tame and
enjoy being out of their cage a lot. They do not necessarily need to go to the same home
as they are both males and therefore there is a lot of rivalry.
I have a three year old cockatiel called Sydney who is very tame with loads of personality
and thinks he is human. He enjoys human contact and needs a loving owner with a lot of
time on his/her hands. My other cockatiel is six months old and is very playful and enjoys
other birds company a lot. He might adjust very well to an avairy or an owner with other
cockatiels. He is mostly tame but just needs a bit of extra training sometimes.
Please contact me if you are interested.

.I came across
your site today and saw the recommendation for Pet Patrol. I haven't used this
company, but I would like to recommend Pet-Force, run by Colin Stevens. My wife
and I trust him implicitly with our house keys and our dogs. He goes in 3 days per
week while we are at work and takes the dogs out. On the days he doesn't go, the
dogs sit at the door crying for him. He is extremely reliable, very
friendly and the dogs adore him. When we go on holiday this year he
is going to board them at his home, another of the excellent services he offers. His
telephone number is 01702 460273 and he has a web-site: www.pet-force.com.
Thanks.

Hi
Pet Sitting & Dog Walking Service
May I recommend Roger Johnson and his company "Pet Patrol" (01702 510550)
or e-mail petpatrol@ukonline.co.uk,
to anyone who is seeking a reliable pet sitter or walker.
Roger offers and a dog walking service and an in-home pet care service while you are away,
which means that your pets can be looked after in the familiar surroundings of their own
home. He began walking our spaniel in July 2000 on the days I work and has not once let us
down. He is honest and reliable and the animals love him.
Thanks
Liz

Hi
As the owner of a beautiful Italian Spinone who frequently takes her for a walk over Leigh
marshes and TTI (two tree island) can I thank Liz for her kind words on a wonderful breed
of dog.
I have had "Cara" for three years since retiring from work and every day she
grows more and more delightful, a definite character with an intelligent and enquiring
mind.
This is the first time I have had this breed and would thank a friend of mine a (police
dog handler) who recommended it, they are a working gundog breed described as an HPR
(hunting, pointing, retriever) and have all the traits of most gundogs being hard working,
friendly and eager to please. An added bonus is that they are beautiful to look at.
They are a big dog average weight 30/45kg and with an appetite to match, they can be
"vocal' but because of their intelligence are easily trained.
For more information I can recommend the website below.

Does anyone know of a good dog trainer in the Leigh or Southend area. My 4 month old
Weimaraner Jasmine is easily excited and even though I can manage her now - I'm not sure
that I will be able to when she is fully grown !! Also - if anyone has any tips on how to
stop dogs barking I would appreciate it.
Thanks,

Here is a picture
of the leigh-on-sea.com webmaster's own dog Charlie.
Charlie is a 7 year old Salt & Pepper coloured Miniature Schnauzer who enjoys walks on
The Belton Hills and Two Tree Island where he meets up with lots of his friends.
Miniature Schnauzers have a wonderful placid temperament, are great with children, good guard dogs (although their bark is much worse than their bite!) and best of all they don't moult.
