You could be part of a Band who are collectively the most amazing players and musicians, or you could be the most wonderful vocal harmony band or even the worlds greatest singer / performer, but without the right Song / Material, you are going nowhere!.
Who writes these songs? You would be amazed, they are normally the most unassuming of characters, if you sat next to them on the Tube, or the Bus, you would be forgiven for thinking that they work for the local council, as their appearance would be anything but Showbiz
Writers of any nature, whether it is Literary or Musical, are usually eccentric outlandish characters or hermits, they range from the sublime to the ridiculous, the mood swings can be unreal, but why? Have you ever tried to write a song or a verse? Have you ever poured your heart out in words or music, or both? Exposed your soul, your emotions, your very being in front of one, two or hundreds, maybe even thousands of people, well if you have, or if you ever do, you will understand why these individuals are the way they are!
These individuals are incredible! They can make people happy or sad, laugh or cry, but for some unexplained reason, the person on the receiving end wants more and more. Why? Because this is an incredible release for their own pent up emotions, this is why at certain times in a persons life, a song or a piece of music becomes, and plays, a major role in their life, to help them overcome a particularly traumatic part of their existence or recaptures the most unforgettable experience they have ever encountered. How does this happen? By the beautiful innovation of the harmonics of the melody constructed through the chord sequence or the identification of the lyrical content that is so pertinent to that particular individuals circumstances at that particular juncture of their existence.
A song or piece of music is also a memory prompter, how many times have you heard one of your favourite numbers on the Radio, in a pub or a club or even just walking down the street and all those memories, good or bad, come flooding back and in the strangest way it makes you feel good, gives you comfort, makes you feel special because its YOUR Song !.
How do you go about writing one of these wonderful pieces of magic, especially if you dont have a musical note in your head or you are completely tone-deaf? A pen and a notepad are possibly the cheapest tools of the trade in any industry, so go and acquire these for yourself. ......continued in The Essential Guide
