Five Things You Probably Haven’t Done This Summer (Yet)

As it seems the weather on our fair isle is giving one last hurrah, we thought we’d give you a few tips on things to do with your three day weekend that you may have not done yet this summer. So if your Summer has so far consisted of drinking too much Pimm’s and catching sunburn, read on for a touch of something different to squeeze in before it’s all over. After all, Winter is coming.

HAVE A BARBEQUE THAT ISN’T A BARBEQUE

For some reason, eating blackened sausages and burgers that are cold in the middle is seen as the holy grail of British summertime cuisine. But it doesn’t need to be this way, paella pans, pizza stones, jerk chicken drums, there’s a whole plethora of alternative cookout paraphernalia to impress your guests, just maybe leave the chocolate fountain indoors, can be a nightmare to clean up.

REENACT MIAMI VICE

With it’s sprawling coastline and Palm trees, given the right light (or Instagram filters), the Estuary can resemble the beaches of Miami, California, or any given 1980s cop-show setting. With this in mind, strap on your roller-skates, whip out the sweatbands and get yourself down to the seafront to strut your stuff in the sun.

FORAGE

The wild land along the Estuary is a veritable kitchen pantry, if you know where to look, blackberries, wild mint, burdock, make sure to pick from near the top of the bush, mind. No one likes dog wee in their fruit salad.

CATCH A FILM OUTDOORS

Big Screen Southend will be showing such classics as E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind alongside a little known franchise called Star Wars, all for free, in the open air every Saturday in August.

WORK OUT(DOORS)

I know, I know, you wanted to shape up for the Summer and guess what, Summer came and you’re still out of breath from tying your shoes. For some of us, this can mean giving up again until next year, but for those of you who refuse to surrender, David Lloyd Southend have made a series of videos to help you feel the burn, calorie burn that is, remember to wear sun lotion.

Whatever you do over the bank holiday weekend, be sure to use the hashtag #HappyLeigh on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to share the love!
