Car park closure at Southend Civic Centre

Wednesday 29 July 2015

Residents and visitors are advised that one of Southend Civic Centre’s public car parks will be temporarily closed for repairs from Monday 3 August.

The resurfacing, drainage and other works in the surface-level car park off Carnarvon Road, Southend, near the Council’s registration services section, are expected to last for around six weeks.

Motorists will be directed instead to the car park for the former Southend Central Library - now the Beecroft Art Gallery - off Great Eastern Avenue.

Meanwhile, on match days, those attending Southend United Football Club games will be redirected to the Civic Centre East car park behind the Civic Centre, accessible via Great Eastern Avenue too.

Wedding vehicles and guests will be able to use the small car park accessed directly off Victoria Avenue.

To minimise disruption, noisy work on the car park will only be undertaken before noon and will not be scheduled when morning ceremonies are taking place.

Where possible, other large meetings and ceremonies due to have been held in the Civic Suite, are being relocated to venues such as the Tickfield Centre, Beecroft Art Gallery, The Forum Southend-on-Sea, or elsewhere within the Civic Centre.

Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste and Transport, Councillor Martin Terry said: “We hope people will take note of the alternative parking places, and will bear with us during these important repair works which will tackle surface water flooding problems and other issues in this car park.
“We will also take this opportunity to reconfigure the parking bays to improve circulation and we will repave the area outside the register office to provide a more pleasant environment.
“I would like to thank users of this car park in advance for their co-operation.”

Notice of the temporary closure and nearest alternative parking will be clearly signposted.
