Community Day with Leigh Town Council

May 7, 2019 by Leigh-on-sea.com

Leigh-on-Sea Town Council are pleased to announce the Community Day at Bonchurch Park returns for a second year!

This is a free event for residents and visitors to enjoy and aimed at enhancing community spirit by showcasing a variety of community group and charities within Leigh-on-Sea and neighbouring towns. It is a chance to support these groups and learn more about what you can get involved with including educational courses, children’s groups, health and fitness classes and volunteering opportunities!

Most of all the Community Day is as much about having fun as a community, as it is about doing something worthwhile to improve the town.

There are over 30 stall holders exhibiting including, Essex County Fire & Rescue Service, RNLI, Leigh Society, West Leigh Baptist Church, The Royal British Legion, Leigh Lions, Southend Adult Community College, Southend YMCA, Broadway Belles WI, Yoga4all, Talking Tots, Seaside Circus and more! Many with taster sessions and demonstrations available.

There were also a number of performances throughout the day from local dance and drama groups including, Leigh Starlite Majorettes, N-Act Theatre Schools, PS Dance, Leigh-on-Sea Theatretrain and the Feel Good Choir.

Last year, the event was well received and although there is always room for improvement, the general feedback and response on the day was overwhelmingly positive and there was a noticeably ‘local feel’. Many residents also approached us and commented that it was nice to see the park used and get some good publicity.

The stall holders expressed that it was a great opportunity to meet local residents who they hoped to maintain contact with and also network with other community groups to share their experiences

Comments from our online survey after last year’s event included:

“The atmosphere was one of friendliness and fun. The music and dancing was excellent.”

“A good mix of stall holders all from the Leigh area and a good family feel.”

“I applaud those who worked so hard to make this day a success. Lovely to see our local community come together.”

“[We enjoyed] The entertainment and the friendly atmosphere also how easy it was to find relevant people if you needed any help.”
