Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is congratulating the Borough’s students for their excellent A-level results.

Figures from the borough’s ten schools indicate the number of A*/A grades and A* to E grades were both above the national average

Over 1,000 students at Southend sixth forms took A-level exams, with indicative results back so far showing that 98.5% achieved A*- E grades, compared to a national average of 97.6%.

Of these indicative results, 7.9% of entries were A*, compared to 8.0% nationally. Furthermore, 28.6% of entries achieved A* or A grades, compared to national figures of 25.3%.

Cllr Anne Jones, cabinet member for children and learning, said: “I am so very proud of all of our students, and they should be delighted with their own achievements. A-levels can be extremely daunting and to see so many come out smiling the other side of results day absolutely delights me.

“We must not forget to thank all of our wonderful teachers who have been an integral part to the students gaining these grades. I hope that all of our students can use these results to propel themselves to success, in whichever field that may be, and I wish them all the best in their futures.

“We have a rich history of fantastic A-level results in Southend and this year we are proud to continue that trend by achieving above the national average for A* - E grades.”
