Commitment, dedication and strong partnership working has resulted in Southend-on-Sea Borough Council winning the ‘30 Hours Team award’ at the national Childcare Works Awards 2018, which was announced on Wednesday night.

The national 30 hours childcare is funded for qualifying families, enabling more parents to continue to work, and aims to reduce poverty across the country.

Childcare Works is a partnership between Mott MacDonald, Hempsall’s and Action for Children and the awards are a part of how Childcare Works promote the hard work of local authorities and their partner providers, in overcoming challenges, being creative and innovative when implementing the 30 hours initiative, which is benefiting children and families both now and in the future.

The award was open to all 152 local authorities in England responsible for education. It was presented by Michelle Dyson, Director Early Years – Childcare, at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster. The 30 Hours award was given in recognition of top level commitment and an effective and efficient local delivery, with strong partnership working.

Brin Martin, Head of Learning, says: “The Council’s Early Years team worked closely with colleagues in Data, IT and Finance in order to roll out this national initiative. Our colleagues won the award for their collaborative cross-department working and dedication, and we are proud of their commitment and achievements. These teams regularly went over and above everyday working to achieve accessible, flexible and affordable childcare that is now benefiting many parents in the borough.”
