Fashion evening explores Southend’s counter-cultures and famous Technical College

April 9, 2019 by Leigh-on-sea.com

On Thursday the 25th of April, the Beecroft Art Gallery is hosting an exclusive evening talk exploring fashion photography and counter-cultures with noted fashion photographer, Tessa Hallmann and muse, Mark Dooris.

The event is in collaboration with the popular Subcultures exhibition on show now at the gallery.

Tessa Hallmann is a portrait and fashion photographer. She has photographed icons such as Stephen Jones and Twiggy, amongst many others. Her first forays into photography were as a student at the noted Art School at the Technical College in Southend, which was a creative hub for the town. Tessa captured the striking counter-culture New Romantic and club scene looks of the students.

Tessa will be joined by Mark Dooris, who is a stylist, muse and promoter. Known for his bold looks and eye-catching style, he has featured in a number of exhibitions at the Beecroft Art Gallery. Mark was a frequent model for Tessa, whilst studying at Southend.

Tessa and Mark will be talking through the defining images of their careers and exploring the youth cultures they were part of. There will also be an interactive element to the evening and visitors will be able to explore the Subcultures exhibition at the Beecroft before the talk.

This event is perfect for those interested in the history of Southend’s counterculture scene, as well as those passionate about fashion, photography and styling. Students studying in the creative industries will also be able to gain insight into fashion and can purchase discounted tickets.

Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

Tickets cost £6 and £5 for students. Tickets are available online via Eventbrite. Visit www.southendlam.eventbrite.co.uk and tickets are available from Beecroft Art Gallery.
