Fashion Guru Gok Wan joins Brian Conley in Robinson Crusoe & the Caribbean Pirates

Cliffs Pavilion, Southend
Sat 10 Dec - Sun 8 Jan 2017

The Cliffs Pavilion has announced that everyone’s favourite fashionista, television presenter, chef, designer and pantomime star Gok Wan will headline alongside the previously announced Brian Conley in the swashbuckling pantomime Robinson Crusoe & the Caribbean Pirates.

Gok Wan will play the Spirit of the Ocean, offering help (and style tips) to Robinson, his mother Mrs Crusoe and the beautiful Polly as they try to outwit the evil Blackheart the Pirate, defeat the mighty sea monster and win riches beyond their wildest dreams. Robinson Crusoe & the Caribbean Pirates marks Gok’s fourth pantomime appearance for Qdos Entertainment, producers of the Cliffs’ Christmas show, the first of which was the subject of the Channel 4 documentary Gok Does Panto. Robinson Crusoe will reunite Gok with Brian Conley having won rave reviews together for their roles in a record-breaking production of Cinderella in 2014.

Gok’s TV career started with the overwhelming success of his Channel 4 series, How To Look Good Naked and through his expertise as a fashion stylist and the show’s phenomenal success he became an ‘institution for women wanting to find their own unique style and confidence’. How To Look Good Naked was so successful that Gok appeared in a further six series and then went on to host three series of Gok’s Fashion Fix. Gok’s other recent TV credits include How To Cook Chinese, Gok’s Style Secrets, Gok Live Stripping For Summer, Too Fat Too Young and Gok’s Teen’s The Naked Truth.

Gok is a regular guest presenter on ITV1’s This Morning and has most recently presented Fearne and Gok - Off the Rails for ITVBe and hosts ITV1’s Gok’s Lunchbox, a brand-new lunchtime cooking show that sees three food enthusiasts go head-to-head to create the best dish. He is also currently filming a new series called Gok’s Fill Your House For Free for Channel 4.

Speaking about his role at the Cliffs Pavilion this Christmas, Gok said: “I’m really excited to be heading to Southend this Christmas and working alongside the hilarious and unique Brian Conley again is a dream come true. Brian and I had a great time working together on our last panto, so I can’t wait to be reunited to find out what mayhem and ad-libs we can bring to Robinson Crusoe and give audiences a truly fabulous and very funny show.”

Referring to this star addition to the cast Cliffs Pavilion Theatre Director, Ellen McPhillips, commented: “Robinson Crusoe is already outselling last year’s pantomime due to the huge popularity of Brian Conley and Gok will be a hugely popular addition to the cast. My advice to patrons is to get their tickets without delay, since two such popular stars will definitely mean that many performances will sell-out.”

The ship-shape show is produced by Qdos Entertainment, the biggest pantomime producer in the world, who will bring an action packed family show full of fabulous scenery, outrageous costumes and stunning special effects, plus a few surprises to shiver your timbers. With tickets selling fast, set sail for the box office and book your tickets now.
