Have Your Say: The Future of The Grand

February 25, 2020 by Liam Jefferies

The Grand Hotel on Leigh-on-Sea Broadway has been the subject of a petition with almost 600 signatures (at time of going to press) calling for it to become a Wetherspoons pub.

Developer Mick Norcross, of The Only Way is Essex, has stated that he has already spent £5million on his project to turn it into new homes, and that homes will be ready to be lived in within 18 months.

Damian Smith of Leigh said of the petition to the Echo: “I have spent many great times at The Grand and I find it very upsetting to see it as it looks.

“I have no criticisms for Mr Norcross, in fact I admire his efforts.

“It’s exposed to the elements and I am concerned it’s becoming beyond economic repair.

“There are some fantastic Wetherspoons pubs bucking the pub closing trend.

“I want to get a few thousand signatures and meet the Wetherspoons chairman to put across the public’s feelings on this.”
