Health Just The Job In Checks At Work

Friday 3rd July 2015

Workers are to be targeted for free NHS Health checks this Summer, with a specially adapted mobile unit touring the Borough’s industrial estates.

Anglian Community Enterprise (ACE) have been commissioned by the council’s public health team to provide an outreach service that takes the checks into the community.

The NHS Health Check programme is available to people between the ages of 40 and 74 and aims to prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and certain types of dementia.

Cllr James Moyies, Executive Councillor for Health and Adult Social Care, says: “Whilst everyone eligible can have their check at their GP practice, we recognise that taking time off work to do that can be difficult.

“We have therefore commissioned Anglia Community Enterprise (ACE) to provide an outreach service that takes the checks out into the community. This will make the tests much more accessible and increase the take up rate which can only be a good thing for the local community.
"Along with this outreach programme I would also encourage anyone between the ages of 40 and 74 to find out if they are eligible for a free check."

ACE will be taking their adapted vehicle to local industrial parks around the Southend-on-Sea and Shoeburyness areas and staff will be able to book the twenty-minute appointment directly with ACE by phoning 0800 022 4524 (option 4) or emailing healthchecks@nhs.net.

If you would like further information about where and when you can book, contact ACE on the above details.

About the NHS Health Check programme:
The NHS Health Check programme aims to help prevent heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and certain types of dementia. Everyone between the ages of 40 and 74, who has not already been diagnosed with one of these conditions or have certain risk factors, will be invited (once every five years) to have a check to assess their risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and diabetes and will be given support and advice to help them reduce or manage that risk.
