HOW MUCH? OH OK!

HOW MUCH!? OH OK.

My last article was a look at the prices of properties in Leigh. I compared a property that I had on the market on the top floor of St Clements Court next to Leigh Library with great views that was on the market for £250,000 to the penthouse that has recently gone on to the market at Eden Point for £2,500,000. My tongue was firmly in my cheek when I compared the apartments and whether anything could be worth as much as 10 times more than the other.

Well, the owner of the penthouse at Eden Point obviously read the article and I was lucky enough to be invited up to the apartment to see for myself what £2,500,00 can buy. I am not going to admit to having to eat a large slice of humble pie, but my goodness it was very impressive.

The private lift opened straight into the apartment and glass double doors lead in to the reception room. This room is enormous and has views on 3 sides; over the estuary to the south, towards Hadleigh Castle and London to the west and Belfairs woods to the north. You could spend hours staring out of the windows picking out points of interest and seeing how far you can see.

If you did that though you would miss the interior. Apparently a professional interior designer has been used to dress the flat and it really shows. High quality furniture and fittings are all exactly how you would want them and where they should be and the whole place is brimming with high tech gadgets that I would never be clever enough to be able to use!

The kitchen has everything that you could imagine and is straight out of a lifestyle magazine; a large central island, top of the range appliances, coffee machine and even a full height wine cooler. It is an extremely sociable space and I could imagine standing at the island rustling up a meal while I chat to guests milling around on one of the 3, yes 3, balconies sipping cocktails. You have to have a dream!

The master bedroom is also on this top floor and is like the best boutique hotel you have ever stayed in; a large bedroom with access onto the balcony, fabulous en suite with oodles of marble and even his and hers dressing rooms because you couldn’t possibly share a wardrobe with your partner!

Even the boring stuff is well thought out. There is a powder room and cloakroom for visiting guests while the stairs down stairs lead to the more functional area. 3 more double bedrooms, 3 amazing bathrooms, a laundry room and a comms cupboards that has all of the technical stuff that meant nothing to me.

It is not my job to comment on whether or not the property is worth £2,500,000 (well I guess it kind of is), but what I can say, is that on the quality, size, views and location. If somebody is prepared to pay the asking price for the property then I would be surprised if they were able to find anything better in the town.

My last article actually brought comments from people that I may have caused offence. Obviously this was not my intention and if people thought that I think that Leigh only needs people that can afford a £2,500,000 flat or people that can’t afford that or even anywhere near it shouldn’t live in Leigh or aren’t as deserving then that is rubbish. I tried to put across the point that in Leigh we have a very diverse property stock and should be able to cater for all budgets and types of people but if prices do continue to rise at the rate of knots that they have previously done, then we may get to a situation where properties do become unaffordable for most people and the fabulous cross sections of types of people that live in our town could become something very different.
