It's that time again

June 3, 2018 by Rob Kahl @ Scott & Stapleton

This week sees the start of the hugely popular Leigh Art Trail. This year is especially important and will be the biggest event yet celebrating the 21st year of the trail. There are 63 artists displaying their work at 53 different venues and once again we are delighted at Scott & Stapleton to do our bit once more.

This year we will be displaying works by 2 different artists. It is hugely exciting to have some fresh blood in the office and we look forward to seeing Cole Watkins & Dinah Case.

Cole is a photographic artist who manages to combine traditional methods with modern technology which according to the blurb creates a touch of unreality and intrigue. Sounds interesting? Apparently he is going to bring in his traditional camera to give demonstrations of how it works and for people to have a nose which will be good. I know we will be interested to compare his camera with the modern digital cameras we use.

Dinah is completely different which will make an interesting mix. She is a painter & printmaker using oil & acrylic on canvas & board and does many other things including printmaking, monoprinting, etching and drypoint. I don’t know what any of those are so will be interested to learn. Her stuff is more abstract from what I can gather so it will be exciting to see her work and how it is interpreted.

Both artists are new to the Art Trail and don’t really know what to expect. I have told them about the hordes of people who come so you had better not let me down!

As well as the artists there are plenty of events including competitions, workshops and theatre. There are also displays at the railway stations at Chalkwell & Leigh and displays from local art students and pupils from local primary schools.

There is also the secret auction where people are able to make bids for works and maybe take a masterpiece home with them.

This years art trail runs from Saturday June 9 to Saturday June 16 and we hope to see you all in our office and out and about soaking up the culture. This event has long been a highlight on the calendar for Leigh on Sea and is getting more & more famous. I am sure this year will be the biggest and best yet and will once again secure Leigh’s reputation as a hub for artists and culture.
