Legal Eagle Q & A: How does property and inheritance tax work?

April 8, 2019 by Melinda @ Giles Wilson Solicitors

Question: My mum wants to put her house in my name so that we don’t pay any inheritance tax when she dies.  Can this be done?

Answer: Your mum will not avoid inheritance tax this way as she will be reserving a benefit in the property by still living there.  Sorry, but this will not work for her.
