Legal Eagle Q & A: When marriages are sadly short lived

September 15, 2019 by Melinda @ Giles Wilson Solicitors

Question:  I have only been married for 3 months, but realise I’ve made a terrible mistake. Do I have to wait before I get a divorce?

Answer: I’m sorry to hear this. You will have to wait one year before you can apply for a divorce, and even then you need to have grounds, in the usual way. It can be complicated, but additionally there are some cases where the marriage can be annulled.
