Legal Eagle Q & A: Lease extensions on property in Leigh-on-sea

June 10, 2019 by Melinda @ Giles Wilson Solicitors

Question: My nan bought her flat 40 years ago, and it has only 65 years on the lease.  I’ve been told it is not worth very much because of this, and she is upset – what can she do?

Answer:  She can apply for a lease extension – this is a legal process that she should pursue before the property is sold because it can take a while to sort out but she does have the legal right to do so.  I hope this is the news you wanted to hear!
