Question: My gran has offered to give me £10,000 deposit towards a flat but a friend told me that I won’t be able to get a mortgage if it is a gift. Is that true?

Answer: Each mortgage lender has its own set of rules, but usually they just want evidence that it is a proper gift and not an additional loan.  If you disclose at the beginning that it is a gift, they will let you know if they still agree to the mortgage.
