Leigh Art Trail 2017

May 29, 2017 by Rob Kahl

There is a sure sign that Summer is nearly upon us, the 2017 Leigh Art Trail is now just a couple of weeks away.

Scott & Stapleton have been a strong supporter of this event for many years and this year is no exception with Natasha Kamburova once again displaying her wonderful paintings in our office.

This year the organisers promise us an extra special event celebrating the 20th anniversary of this extremely popular festival of art and culture.

There will be a staggering 52 exhibits including the welcome return of the popular Scuplture Street in West Street. The road will be closed to traffic for 2 days over the first weekend of the trail and residents will display all manner of wonderful work.

Many of the artist' will be available to meet interested onlookers and there will even be a demonstration of stone carving. As ever the exhibits will be a wonderful mix of the eclectic that will surely have something for everyone.

Various collections of photography, paintings, mosaics, ceramics, collage, mixed media, jewellery, pottery, embroidery, basically anything you can think of all displayed in local businesses, shops and cafes. Hopefully this will ensure that people can browse the exhibits at their leisure in a relaxed, less formal atmosphere than a traditional gallery which can sometimes feel a little stuffy or even intimidating.

There will also be a number of events and demonstrations across the week and even lessons so you can try your hand at things like charcoal drawing, sketching, decoupage (no, me neither), painting and even a Pop Up Graffiti Jam where you can legally learn how to spray paint your own Banksy.

One thing that caught my eye was the ever popular 'Middle Age Spread', a local band with an enthusiastic following putting on what they describe as a 'grown up disco' inviting those that they describe as 'unafraid to dance'; I might have to give that a go, that is if my boss Tim Scott is not there hogging the dance floor!

This years event takes place from 10th – 17th June and I know I speak for all of the exhibiters, organisers and venues when I say that everyone is extremely welcome and we can’t wait to see you all.

Lets make this special 20th anniversary event the biggest success yet and one more reason why our little town has got to be the most popular around (biased I know).
