Leigh Library Gardens needs you!

October 29, 2019 by Leigh-on-sea.com

A new volunteer group has been set up in Leigh-on-Sea to help maintain and improve the Leigh Library Gardens and it needs local people to get involved and help.

Leigh Library Gardens plays an important part in life in Leigh. Anyone who lives or works in the town will probably have visited the historic Library Gardens at some point. It might have been to take children or grandchildren to the swings and have a picnic or play after school, it might be for lunch on a sunny day or to walk the dog. Hundreds enjoy the Folk Festival and May Fair each year and some even have wedding photos taken in the Gardens, capturing the joy of the day in this much-loved, well-used green space.

Working with Leigh-on-Sea town council and Southend-on-Sea council, the Friends of Leigh Library Gardens are a small, friendly group of local people who have come together to work in the Gardens, improve the facilities, tend the plants and trees and develop them as a community space for future generations.

Volunteers are needed to join the group, whether in a practical role working in the Gardens or in other capacities to spread awareness, run events or gather tools. The Friends meet in the Gardens, near the Library building, at 10am to 11.30am on working party days. Tools are provided but suitable clothing for outdoor work is needed.  Support from other community or social groups and organisations in achieving the charity’s objectives would be welcomed too.

Working parties will take place on the following days for the rest of 2019:

  • Sat 2 November 2019
  • Wed 6 November 2019
  • Sat 16 November 2019
  • Wed 20 November 2019
  • Sat 30 November 2019
  • Wed 4 December 2019
  • Sat 14 December 2019
  • Wed18 December 2019

No gardening experience is needed and no special skills are required. This is a great opportunity to meet new friends, get some exercise in the fresh air and benefit the local community. All are welcome. There is plenty to do and plans for future development are under discussion. No need to register to attend, just turn up and help.

For more information, please email follg2018@gmail.com or drop into one of the working party sessions and talk to a volunteer.
