On Sunday 24th March, a local fitness company put supporters of a local charity through their paces at their first trek training class

Simply Stride were joined by 13 trekkers for their first training session across the Hadleigh Downs. Many of the trekkers are taking part in a National Three Peaks Challenge this summer to raise vital funds for Havens Hospices, which includes Fair Havens Hospice, Little Havens Hospice and The J’s.

The charity has teamed up with the countywide walking company to offer training for anyone who is trekking for Havens Hospices this year; especially the National Three Peaks which will see Team Havens climbing Ben Nevis, Scaffel Pike and Snowdon – the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in 24-hours over the first weekend of July.

Simply Stride are putting on monthly Sunday training sessions, finishing on the 30th June. to help trekkers increase stamina and fitness, giving them the best tools for the ultimate UK Trekking challenge.

Emma Hamilton, Challenges Fundraiser from Havens Hospices is leading Team Havens at this year’s National Three Peaks and joined her fellow trekkers on Sunday.

She said “We can only exist because of the kindness of our supporters who take on challenges for us to raise money; so, I’d like to thank Karen and her team at Simply Stride for collaborating with us on the training. It’s fantastic that we’re able to support our supporters in this way. The knowledge the team are sharing with us is going to be invaluable when we start-out on the challenge on 5th July.

“If you’d like to join us for the National Three Peaks there’s still time to join Team Havens and help us continue ‘Making every day count’ for the children, young people and adults with life-limiting illnesses and families we care for from across Essex.”

Karen Turrell Founder of Simply Stride added, “We’re really pleased that we have been able to help Havens Hospices and their supporters in their training. At Simply Stride we really do feel that the benefits of walking, striding, trekking are not just physical. We’ve perfected a training technique that calls on practices from yoga, pilates and mindfulness which is beneficial for mental and emotional health as well as increasing stamina and physical fitness.

“We’re hoping that the techniques we share with the team helps them get up those mountains in record time and raise vital funds so that the charity can continue providing free, specialist care for as long as they’re needed.”
