Local Year 4 students - get ready to ‘Expect More’
Year 4 children from across the borough are invited to experience a taste of life at Thorpe Hall School, at their upcoming Expect More Experience Day.
On Saturday 8th March, children aged 8 and 9 (currently in Year 4) can visit the award-winning local independent school, based in Wakering Road, Southend.
They’ll be challenged to take part in three fast paced fun packed sessions during this 3-hour event. They’ll experience sessions in Sport, Performing Arts and Science, all run by specialist Thorpe Hall staff, in the school’s brand new fully equipped labs, professional theatre and £2.4m sports centre.
From solving crimes and trying new sports, to designing costumes and putting on a show, the day will be full of exciting opportunities, which represent a flavour of what Thorpe Hall offers its pupils in Years 5 & 6.
Thorpe Hall School provides award-winning independent education for children aged 2 to 16. In recent years, its “raising standards” agenda has seen tremendous benefits for all its students. Their “Expect More” provision in Years 5 & 6 is unique to the area, and combines innovative programmes, diverse clubs, dedicated support, and access to extensive facilities and specialised teachers to provide a significant ‘step up’ in these year groups.
Their notable success in the last 11+ exams shows the positive effect the school is having on its pupils’ attainment. The average score for their 11+ candidates was an astounding 335 – vastly over the 303 point pass mark for entry into local grammar schools.
Stephen Duckitt, Headteacher says that the school’s approach in Years 5 & 6 gives Thorpe Hall School children a clear advantage.
“Our Expect More programme encourages children to embrace new challenges, giving them the confidence, skills and independence they need to achieve more. It shows them what’s possible when they “Expect More” from their school and from themselves”
