Long standing empty shop set to become cafe and gallery

The shop that has stood empty next to Pier Hill lift since it was built a number of years ago is set to become a cafe and gallery.

The circular building was part of a multi million pound re-development back in 2004 and has been attempted to be secured by a number of high street chains since.

It is now Southend Borough Council that have revealed and submitted plans to take over the building which include a cafe, gallery space for local artists and play host to a number of exhibitions.

If approved, the transformation will cost an estimated £200,000.

A decision will be made by the development control committee later on thsi year.
