New year, new budget

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council will be hosting the annual budget briefing consultation at the Holiday Inn, Southend Airport.

The briefing, which will take place on Thursday 17 January 2019 from 8am, will give local businesses and stakeholders the opportunity to hear an insight of the council’s 2019/20 budget from Joe Chesterton, strategic director of finance and resources, Cllr John Lamb, leader of Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and Cllr James Courtenay, cabinet member for growth.

There will be an opportunity for attendees to explore financial challenges and opportunities for local businesses in the coming year and the potential impact of the budget. Representatives from the procurement team will be on-hand to answer any questions about how to bid for future council business.

There will be the opportunity to ask questions regarding the budget, current council services and also about future plans for the town. The council welcomes ideas for new ways the council can operate and support the growth of local business and prosperity.

Cllr John Lamb, leader of the council, said: “The business briefings throughout the year are always well attended and well received, and the budget briefing offers local businesses the opportunity to see how they can benefit from council and government funding.

“Councils across the country are facing challenging times with the reduction in central government funding so we need to develop new ways of working to raise funding and continue to support the needs of the community.

“I urge all businesses and stakeholders to attend the event as it offers a great insight and also allows for networking between businesses and partners.”
