Nightmare diversions and gridlocks as 18 week gas main work starts

Replacement gas works have commenced at The Fairway, Leigh causing potential disruption for the next 18 weeks.

A series of road closures and diversions will be phased in throughout the period; Eastwood Road North to Moor Park Gardens is already closed.

The work taking place of an 18 inch gas main that requires deep excavation, is the largest main renewal undertaken in the borough since an 8 year programme started 4 years ago with National Grid.

As part of the first phase, the filter lane of the A127 towards Leigh will still be in use with traffic being diverted off The Fairway to Bellhouse Lane. Once the first phase has been completed, the road will be re-opened, but there will be no access to the A127 throughout phase two of the works.
