On the 12th day of Christmas
Trading Standards Officers are urging residents to shop safely this Christmas when buying toys as presents for children.
‘The 12 Rules of Christmas’ is a national campaign which is set up to ensure safe toys are given to children over the Christmas period. Each rule gives advice and guidance for how and where to purchase safe and enjoyable toys.
With such a wide-variety of options now when purchasing toys, it is quite possible that a dangerous toy may get mixed in with other top quality products, which can prove dangerous for the child who receives it.
In line with the campaign, @SouthendTS and @SouthendBC will be tweeting one rule each day leading up to Christmas day using #12RulesofChristmas.
Cllr Helen Boyd, cabinet member for children and learning, said: “Christmas Day is a very special time particularly for children. Receiving and giving presents is a big part of this, but it is vital those gifts are safe
“Whilst toys are the most popular present for most children, it is important that the toys they are gifted are appropriate for their age, and also safe to use. I urge all those who plan on buying toys for little ones this Christmas to follow the 12 rules to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable Christmas.”
In the event that consumers find suspect toys or any other unsafe products in Southend they can report them via the National Trading Standards helpline which is run by Citizens Advice on 03454 04 05 06
