Partnership action day to improve Southend town centre

November 12, 2018 by Southend Borough Council

Residents and businesses are being given the opportunity to feedback to those who run projects and services designed to improve Southend town centre.

An organised action day is taking place in Southend High Street, on Wednesday 14 November, from 10am, led by the Southend Community Safety Partnership (SCSP) with the help of other key community organisations and support agencies.

Representatives from Essex Police, housing organisations, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, homeless charities and Citizen’s Advice Bureau, to name a few, will be offering advice, information and support to residents and businesses.

The aim is to promote partnership working and the vast array of community services and support available to local people, whilst hearing more about what else is needed.

Insp Ian Hughes, from Southend community policing team, said: “These activity days really allow us to reassure the public that we work in partnership, across various organisations to make Southend-on-Sea a welcoming and inviting town for residents and visitors alike.

“We will spend the day engaging with residents and retailers to highlight the good work already taking place and to find out if there is anything else that can be done.”

This event follows on from a successful action day held in Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, in September.

Councillor Mark Flewitt, the council’s cabinet member for public protection, said: “Like many areas of the UK, Southend-on-Sea is looking at challenges such as violent crime, community safety and anti-social behaviour. But through partnership working and listening to the concerns of residents and retailers, we hope to tackle these issues head on.”
