Award Winning Artist Paul Karslake hosts Charity event!
Paul Karslake the accomplished Leigh artist, together with Peter Thorn hosted an evening at Paul's studio. The purpose was to raise much needed money to save the Bulbulir Basa Orphanage in Kolkata from closure next month.
Peter has visited and worked with the children at the orphanage on many occasions since 2000. The home is run by a lovely guy, Mithu and his Mum and was set up in the red light area where many children are living on the streets.
The orphanage was home to 18 children but because of funding difficulties they are now down to 8. Sadly, some of the children have had to go back on the streets where they will live on their own. The children that do leave often maintain their links with the home as they have no family to care for them.
During the evening Paul did a fantastic air-brush picture of Audrey Hepburn which was then put up for auction with a percentage of the proceeds going towards the orphanage. The auctioneer, Simon Mellish did a great job in working the audience and the painting sold for £1k.
The Quinton family who attended the event said 'what a wonderful evening it was and they were in awe of Paul's work. They felt he was a lovely unaffected man who is so talented.’
Donations together with a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of the pictures are expected to reach about £2,100. This will keep the orphanage open for about 3 months and pay for the boys to have an education. This is their only opportunity of breaking out of the cycle of poverty.
If you would like to help either by making a donation or sponsoring a child please e mailpetethefeet47@yahoo.co.uk for more information. Every penny raised goes directly to helping the children and you can even have an opportunity to go and visit the project should you wish.
