Q&A: Does double mean trouble?

April 10, 2017 by Melinda at Giles Wilson Solicitors

Question: "This week I'd ordered a product from an online store. I paid for it and received it a few days later. No trouble. Then to my surprise today, I received the product again from the same shop. I've looked and double-checked that I hadn't ordered it again by mistake, nor been charged for the product twice and I haven't. Am I entitled to use/sell the product, or do I have to return it?"

Answer: The answer is that if you did not order the item then it clearly is a mistake by the seller and you have no entitlement to it. Rather as if a large sum of money arrived in your bank account! You are under an obligation to let the seller know that you have received something by mistake.
