ReUse shop reopens at Stock Road in partnership with Havens Hospices

May 27, 2025

Southend-on-Sea City Council is pleased to announce the reopening of the ReUse Shop at Stock Road Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC).

The newly refurbished shop is a joint initiative with local Essex charity Havens Hospices. It provides a valuable resource for residents to donate or purchase reusable items, ensuring they find a new home rather than ending up as waste.

The shop is one of several improvements being introduced to make it easier for residents to recycle household items and reduce unnecessary waste.

Recycling, repurposing, or passing on items through local reuse schemes all contribute to improving how we manage unwanted materials. This initiative supports Southend’s broader efforts to enhance the city’s environment, making it cleaner and more sustainable for residents and visitors alike, and boosts civic pride.

Cllr Lydia Hyde, cabinet member for climate, environment and waste, said: “We’re delighted to support the reopening of the Havens Hospices ReUse shop at Stock Road HWRC.

“This fantastic initiative gives residents the opportunity to donate reusable items, helping to reduce waste while supporting the incredible care Havens Hospices provides to our community. It’s a practical and meaningful way for people to make a real difference.”
