Plans for Historic Seafront Pub to Become Flats and Chip Shop

January 20, 2017 by Leigh-on-Sea.com

The Britannia, in Eastern Esplanade, Southend, is to be preserved and turned into a chip shop with flats above, after developers and campaigners came to an agreement following the pub’s closure in March 2015.

The application to Southend Council for the renovation was put in by the Stockvale Group, which will see the facade preserved, while the outbuilding and parts of the rear of the 200 year old pub will be demolished and replaces with three flats and a ground floor restaurant. A separate four story block of flats will be built at the rear of the building.

The decision has divided opinions on the project. What do you think? Leave a comment below.
