Second! First of the losers! Not this time.

Second! First of the losers!! Not this time.

Who was it? Come on own up? Who was interviewed by the survey people when they came round to find out the happiest place to live?

This year we have been knocked off our top spot by Royal Leamington Spa in Warwickshire. What can they possibly have that is better than good old Leigh on Sea?

In all seriousness though I think we can quite rightly be very proud that we feature so high in this list. It is a bit of fun and who knows how they truly judge it, but I do know that over 17,000 people took part in the Rightmove survey from 159 area’s and we came a very respectle second.

As you are probably aware by now if you have ever read any of my blogs, I will shout the virtues of Leigh on Sea until the cows come home. I obviously think we should have been top of the list but am very pleased we were so high.

There are a number of reasons I think that people are so happy in our town. There are the boring estate agents bits like the great commute into London and the excellent schools as well as the Victorian and Edwardian supply of housing, but happiness is based on more than that.

We all work far to hard and do too many hours making our leisure time hugely important so whether your passion is sailing off of our stunning coastline or eating yourself silly in one of our numerous eateries or bars there is plenty to do.

The commute is great but what about when you want to jet off to warmer climates? How convenient is Southend Airport and what a pleasure it is to use rather than the huge Stansted or Gatwick. And as much as the bustling Leigh life is brillian, it's just a few minutes walk and you are in Hadleigh Country Park or Two Tree Island able to escape that daily grind and relax.

But there is even more.

The people in Leigh are just brilliant. There are so many clubs and groups to welcome people in to all types of activities. Even walking through Leigh Broadway can take you half an hour after you have said good morning to everyone and spoken about the weather.

Events that Leigh on Sea is now famous for like Leigh Lights or the Folk Festival rely heavily on the generosity of volunteers and always have plenty of people to call upon.

Here at Scott & Stapleton we have recently had a charity event raising funds for the Lady McAdeden Breast Screening Trust and we were blown away with the response from the general public. We shouldn’t be surprised though it happens every time and warms the Leigh Cockles in our hearts.

So to summarise we may have come second this year but I think we all know that we are top of the list and we will be back next year to quite rightly regain our title.
