Squatters move in on Bullwood Hall Prison site

A group of squatters have broken into and taken up residence in the former prision and immigration centre Bullwood Halll in Hockley.

The site, which has been empty for more than three years now, is due for demolition to make way for a housing development of approximately 60 homes. The company behind the development, Redrow Homes are taking legal steps to see the squatters lawfully moved, however, this could take some time.

Amongst the squatters are thought to be some of those who moved into BHS in Southend high street upon it's closure earlier this year.

Councillors are concerned about the growing number of homeless people aand are urging individuals to come forward to Rochford or Southend Council about their status with a view to providing help.
