‘Tennis Tuesdays’ swing back into action this May

Monday 11th May 2015

Tomorrow (Tuesday 12th May), Chalkwell Park, Southend Tennis and Leisure Centre and Thorpe Bay Tennis Club will be helping to inspire more women to get on court and play tennis by joining in the fun and running a ‘Tennis Tuesdays’ session.

‘Tennis Tuesdays’ launched in 2014 and following the successful pilot scheme it is returning this year to offer fun and informal tennis sessions at local parks and clubs across Great Britain. The initiative from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), in partnership with Nike, launched last week on the 5th May 2015 and will run every week until the autumn.

This year ‘Tennis Tuesdays’ will be rolling out to over 40 venues in London alongside being unveiled in Birmingham, Bournemouth, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Eastbourne, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Oxford and Southend for the first time. The weekly sessions are organised by a local tennis coach and will take place every Tuesday for infrequent players who want to play more and bring their game forward while having fun and meeting likeminded people.

Each week sessions will focus on different themes and will improve a player’s ability with a mixture of fun match play and relaxed coaching.

It couldn’t be easier to get involved, visit www.tennistuesdays.co.uk now to find your nearest session or go to the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TennisTuesdaysUK .

The sessions include:

Chalkwell Park - 7-8pm every Tuesday until the Autumn. £4 per session.
Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre - 7-8pm every Tuesday until the Autumn. £4.50 per session.
Thorpe Bay Lawn Tennis Club - 9:30-10:30am and 7:30-8:30pm every Tuesday until the Autumn. £5 per session.

LTA Regional Participation Manager, Neil Twitchett said: “We are really excited that women in Southend will be able to hit the courts with likeminded people and enjoy Tennis Tuesdays in partnership with Nike. Whether at a park site or club in Southend we hope women take the opportunity to participate in a Tennis Tuesdays programme and enjoy themselves while learning new skills. We are sure that picking up a racket again in this positive environment will ready people for a huge British summer of tennis.

“With five major grass court tournaments in the build up to Wimbledon and a Davis Cup quarter-final to look forward to, it’s a great time to be getting involved in tennis.”
