The New Leigh Regatta

September 3, 2014 by Joanna Harrison

When it was announced only a matter of weeks ago that the famous Leigh Regatta, originating from the 1920's had been cancelled, their almost seemed an immediate dark cloud, full of disappointment form across the estuary shores of Leigh-on-Sea!

However, its was only a matter of days, that with huge thanks to The Lions Club, the sunshine began to set in once again! With promises to take over the Leigh Regatta, with the support of the local community, The Lions Club have set a date for Sunday 14th September!!!

The annual popular event, that attracts thousands of out of towners, is really set to be a show stopper this year!

A number of local named bands will head up Strand Wharf along with The Crooked Billet, The Peterboat & The Ship also playing host to some great live music!

A full racing programme from both Essex Yacht Club & Leigh Saling Club has been released, along with the offer of taster rowing session for beginners!

Coupled with face paining, the traditional 'punch and judy' (it wouldnt be the Regatta without it), stalls and so much more, Sunday 14th is a definite date for your diary!
