Thief breaks into Havens department store in Westcliff

A thief smashed his way through an armoured door at Haven's department store, Westcliff, stealing approximately £2,000 worth of stock and causing £1,500 worth of damage.

Nigel Havens, owner of the shop, responded to a call at approximately 4:45am where police met him.

Before breaking into the building, the theif asked a homeless man, who regularly sleeps in Haven's door to 'move out of the way' and left the robbery in a silver car that was thought to be stolen earlier on this year.

Alongside CCTV, Police however have received lots of information from local people including photograph's of the suspect and filmed footage of the break in. They're hoping combined with this and further assistance from the public that they will soon make an arrest.

Anybody with any information are being asked to contact Southend Police Station on 101
