Weatherspoon propose 60 bed hotel in Leigh

March 13, 2018 by Leigh-on-sea.com

Pub giant Weatherspoon have submitted plans to Southend Council in a bid to build a 60 bed hotel in the car park of their popular Leigh pub The Elms.

The application has been submitted on the basis that the car park is "underused land" and that the lost parking if approved, will be overcome by the 1,200 pay to park spaces available within a 30 minute walk of the site combined with extensive on street parking within the area.

Within the application it states: "The car park adjacent to the existing public building is underused. The applicant can see an opportunity to develop the site of the car park as a new hotel providing 60 bedrooms.

This will generate incrased commerical activity, bringing visitors and custom to the public house, adjacent businesses, and Leigh as a whole.

"Construction of the hotel will employ local tradesmen and suppliers and when complete could provide employment for up to 10 persons, throughout the working week"
