5 Top Christmas Styling Tips

The festive season is here! That magical time when our homes take on a warm glow, full of gatherings, sparkle and scent. But with shelves full of glittery, synthetic decorations, it’s easy to lose sight of what really makes a space feel festive, natural and nurturing. This month I’m sharing my top five Christmas styling tips for creating a beautiful, healthy home that feels calm, cosy and full of seasonal spirit.

1. Start with nature

Bring the outdoors in with foraged or locally sourced greenery. Pine, eucalyptus, holly and rosemary not only look stunning but also fill your home with fresh, natural fragrance. Fill a jug for a show stopping entrance piece on a hallway console table, or if you are fortunate enough to have a mantlepiece - this is the perfect place for a green garland and candles - If you don’t have access to a garden, order a gorgeous Winter Foliage Box through Flower Studio Shop on Etsy. Prices start at £35, or better still pop into Anna’s or Belle Rose on the Broadway - two of my favourite florists and plant shops in Leigh-on-sea.

2. Keep your palette cohesive

Christmas is a time for colour but it can become overwhelming with too many metallic brights. My advice is to choose your favourite and work with harmonious shades. Add sparkle sparingly – a few silver or gold touches along with candlelit accents will make the whole room glow without overwhelming it.

3. Choose mindful materials

When adding new decorations, opt for natural or handmade pieces made from wood, glass, paper or fabric. Avoid PVC or glitter-heavy items, which can release microplastics and VOCs. A few well- chosen, high-quality pieces will last for years and feel more meaningful. Velvet is making a come-back - Recapture the glamour of Christmas from the 1940’s with Fortnum & Mason’s fabulous Green Velvet Clip on Bow!

4. Layer your lighting

The true magic of Christmas lies in the glow. Combine fairy lights with soft table lamps and clusters of candles to create a layered, inviting atmosphere. Beeswax or soy candles burn cleaner and offer a gentle, natural scent – perfect for cosy evenings and festive gatherings. Try Toast’s Skär Organics Beeswax Slim Dinner Candles on the dining table for an elegant evening in.

5. Table runners in, table cloths out!

I’m going for a table runner this year rather than a table cloth. Start with something eye catching, then layer up with your favourite candle sticks and a few sprigs of greenery tied with twine for each setting. – timeless, sustainable and effortlessly elegant. I’m loving Maison Flâneur’s eclectic collection of table runners - there’s one for everyone!

Creating a beautiful Christmas home doesn’t mean more glitter and clutter. It’s about warmth, connection and the beauty of natural materials, soft light and thoughtful touches.
