A drawing a day for a year Steven Walker

September 26, 2012

My aim for a drawing a day is to encourage people to see that a sketch is in itself a unique act.The drawings are simple sketches done early in the morning as part of my art routine- my attempts at looking at the world and being part of it.This is following in the tradition of artists who have influenced me; Auerbach, Bonnard, Kossoff, but usually this is a secret act. A sketch can offer us a glimpse into their thoughts and contains a vitality that the artist would then harness into a painting.

Steven has recently set up an artist run gallery in Leigh-on Sea. Gallery 33 hopes to establish itself in the Leigh community as a centre of contemporary art whose interest lies in re-investigating observational and figurative traditions. The gallery wants to create a bridge and conversation between London artists and the local community and plans to be both an exhibition space as well as a base from which to deliver workshops and art classes.
