Backhouse Solicitors are proud to be celebrating 20 years in business in 2025. Alongside this milestone, we have opened our second office in Leigh-on-Sea and want to spread the word!

Who are we?

The Backhouse Solicitors’ head office in Chelmsford goes from strength to strength with a team of over 70 people offering a wide range of first-class services to our clients. We offer expert legal advice to businesses and individuals.

It’s hard to imagine it all began with one person working from a spare room at home back in 2005! Our success has encouraged us to take the plunge and branch out across Essex. Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Minal Backhouse, is excited to be expanding the Backhouse brand, and what better location than the seaside town of Leigh, known for its great shopping and coastal charm!

Meet the Leigh-on-Sea team

Julia Sood supports clients with later life planning, writing their Wills, preparing Lasting Powers of Attorney and taking away the stress of Probate.

Sarah Smith is a Director in our property team, helping clients buying and selling their homes. Sarah and her colleagues have a great reputation across Essex for outstanding service and high quality work – just check out their Google reviews!

Natalie Anderson works in our Employment Law team helping employees and employers with their workplace problems and supporting business owners with HR packages to keep them on the right side of the law.

Francis Fenegan is our Head of Litigation and Dispute Resolution. Covering anything from a contractual dispute to major corporate fraud, Francis is the man!

Eleanor Toomey works in our Commercial team helping businesses solve legal problems, drawing up shareholder agreements, assisting with the buying or selling of a business and offering Independent Legal Advice.

While our head office remains in central Chelmsford, we’re excited to expand into Leigh-on-Sea, making it easier for South Essex clients to visit us. We can’t wait to meet and welcome local residents and businesses, and to open our doors to talented professionals from the area who would like to join our team.
