ADVENTurous at The Fishermen’s Chapel

November 19, 2014 by Joanna Harrison

The Fishermen’s Chapel is becoming loved as one of Leigh’s quirkiest new venues and is delighted to be hosting a touring arts, poetry and music event with special guest Martin Daws, the young people’s poet laureate.

ADVENTurous is a collaboration of artists, musicians, explorers and adventurers who want to explore issues of justice and peace through various media. Art pieces curated by Gavin Mart of Engedi Arts, will beautify the chapel from 12noon on Sunday 30 November followed at 1pm by a programme of workshops including poetry and song writing, craft and more.

At 3pm the afternoon will conclude with an open-mic performance of the day’s creations plus live music and poetry from Gavin Mart & Martin Daws plus conversation on the themes of Advent & just peace.

As we embark on the season of Advent, a story literally birthed in Bethlehem, we adventurously explore themes of hope and anticipation. Through workshops, live music, discussion and art we enter the struggle for a just peace in Palestine and Israel and contemplate the peace required in our own lives too. Palestinian-style refreshments will be available throughout this day which is suitable for all ages.

You can turn up on the day, but priority for workshops will be given to those who have reserved their free place.
