Allotment sites of varying sizes...

Did you know that Southend Borough Council has fourteen allotment sites of varying sizes throughout the town? Allotments are remarkably good value, and can cost as as little as a few pounds a year.

Cost = Each plot is measured in rods and come in 5 or 10 rod plots.

(5m2 = 1 rod approx) £2.50 per rod/ per year or £1.25 per rod/ per year for concessions (under 18, over 60 and unemployed). This is true for all the time that you are unemployed not just the first year.

There is also a set water charge that varies from £3.30 per year up to 5 rods or £6.60 for over 5 rods. A typical 5 rod plot would cost you:

Rent 5 rods x £2.50 = £12.50

Water = £3.30

Grand Total = £15.80 or £9.55 (concessionary) for the year April 2009/2010.
