Essex Police Strengthen Community Ties with Crime Prevention Initiative

Essex Police have teamed up with Community Safety Officers to provide residents with practical crime prevention advice, reinforcing their ongoing commitment to keeping local communities safe.

Officers met with residents outside Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Leigh-on-Sea this week, offering reassurance, safety guidance, and free crime prevention materials. The initiative was organised in response to recent community concerns and aimed to help residents feel informed, supported, and confident through visible police and council collaboration.

Practical Safety Advice for Residents

Always lock doors and windows, particularly at night.

Keep valuables out of sight.

Consider using outdoor lighting or motion sensors.

Report suspicious behaviour or concerns to Essex Police via 101 or online.

Police emphasised that public awareness and swift reporting can play a vital role in preventing crime and maintaining safety across Southend.

In a separate initiative, Essex Police Specials joined Community Safety Officers on joint foot patrols across Old Leigh, Two Tree Island, and Leigh Broadway. Officers engaged positively with residents and local businesses, strengthening relationships and promoting visible community policing.

The patrols were warmly received, with residents praising the approachable and proactive presence of officers in their neighbourhoods.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said, “Partnership working is key to building trust and ensuring our communities feel safe and supported. We look forward to continuing these joint patrols in the coming months.”

Essex Police and Community Safety Teams plan to hold further engagement events and patrols across the borough, continuing their mission to keep Southend a safe and welcoming place for all.
