Legal Eagle Q & A: Early leave settlements in employment

March 19, 2018 by Melinda @ Giles Wilson Solicitors

Question:  My employer has offered me a sum of money to leave my job.  I am very tempted as it is a good offer and I am not happy in the job, but someone told me that I should get legal advice? I am worried that if I suggest this, they will withdraw the offer.

Answer:  You are entitled to obtain legal advice, and actually the employer should be offering to pay for you to get that advice.  This way you can be clear that any offer suits you, and the employer has protection from you making a claim at a later date.  It is called a settlement agreement
