Exciting launch of McAdden Sanctuary to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 2, 2025

On October 1st, Lady McAdden officially opened it’s doors to the McAdden Sanctuary - a relaxing, calm space with offerings including gentle Pilates, reflexology, breathwork, Neuro Linguistic Programmes, coffee mornings and creative art sessions exclusively available to those affected by Breast Cancer. The Sanctuary, based in Leigh on Sea is a nurturing space where everyone is heard, and community is created. Being able to access the Sanctuary before, during or after breast cancer treatment can have a positive impact during what can be a challenging and difficult time.

The Mayor proudly in attendance at the launch cut the pink ribbon to open the McAdden Sanctuary, thanking the Trust for the vital support and work they do for the local community and beyond.

Christine Nichols, Chair at Lady McAdden exclaims; "Opening our new Sanctuary during Breast Cancer Awareness Month makes this moment especially meaningful. With our 50th anniversary ahead in 2026, this space ensures we can support even more people for the years to come. Thanks especially to Terry and Faye Lake at the Highview Group for their generosity with the refurbishment of our Sanctuary space completely free of charge, making this all possible”

The Sanctuary is led by dedicated nurses and a team of wellbeing professionals, providing a service with the aim to make what can be a challenging time in someone’s life feel slightly easier and lighter.

"The Sanctuary represents a new chapter for Lady McAdden and this facility will allow us to expand the vital support we provide.” Esther Taylor, CEO also thanked everyone from the Highview Group for the refurbishment, practitioners, volunteers and staff; everyone who makes the Sanctuary come to life. The team even dedicated one of the studio rooms to the Highview Group naming it the ‘Highview Studio’ to show appreciation.

Feedback from those who had attended the trial Sanctuary sessions throughout September have claimed the offerings were “exactly what they needed” after breast cancer treatment and “the Sanctuary creates space for community and brings people together that understand each other”.
