Festive Sundays Bring Christmas Magic to Southend’s High Street
Southend’s Christmas celebrations are set to shine even brighter this year as Festive Sundays arrive under the Railway Bridge in December, bringing family fun, live entertainment and festive spirit to the heart of the city.
Running on Sunday 7th , 14th and 21st December from 12-3pm, the series forms part of Southend City BID’s much loved Christmas in the City festive program.
Each Sunday will feature a unique theme packed with free activities, performances and interactive experiences for all ages.
Sunday 7 December - Snow Queen Sunday
Sponsored by Southend Theatres, families are invited to step into a magical winter wonderland for a day inspired by The Snow Queen - this year’s festive production at The Palace Theatre.
Highlights include an interactive Snow Queen Trail along the High Street, where children can collect stamps and stickers from participating retailers to earn a small prize. Under the Bridge, families can enjoy creative craft workshops to make crowns and snowflake wands, face painting, and timed “snowfall” moments.
There will also be storytelling sessions, live performances and a special Snow Queen preview performance complete with a meet-and-greet and photo opportunity on the throne. Little ones can even take to the stage for a Mini Snow Queen Talent Showcase, with prizes for the best dressed and most creative performances. Plus Toys ‘n’ Tuck on Queens Road will be hosting a themed Aquabeads event for even more free festive fun.
Sunday 14 December - Musical Sunday
Southend’s musical talent will take centre stage with live performances from choirs, singers and community groups.
Visitors can enjoy a line-up featuring Matt Bunkall (12.00pm), Southend Operatic Dramatic Society -SODS (12.30pm), Hoy Shanty Crew (1.00pm), Leigh Operatic Dramatic Society - LODS (1.30pm), and Harmonise Choir (2.00pm).
The afternoon promises joyful harmonies, singalong favourites and festive cheer for all the family.
Sunday 21 December – Festive Fun Day
The final Festive Sunday will wrap up the season with a fun-filled family day of free entertainment.
Expect walkabout performers, festive stilt walkers, roller skating presents, naughty elves and live shows from Magic Dave. Free face painting and interactive games will keep children entertained throughout the afternoon, creating the perfect finale to Southend’s Christmas celebrations.
Suzanne Gloyne, Manager at Southend City BID, said:
“We’re thrilled to bring Festive Sundays to Southend this year as part of Christmas in the City. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our community, showcase local talent and create magical memories for families. The High Street will be full of life, music and festive fun every weekend in December.”
Festive Sundays are completely free to attend and part of the wider Christmas in the City programme.
