Find Out More About Fostering
Find out more about fostering
Tuesday 26th May 2015
If you have ever thought about fostering a child, then Fostering Fortnight is the perfect time to find out more.
The council are using the national campaign which runs from 1st to 14th June as the opportunity to run three special information sessions for members of the public.
They are taking place as follows:
Tuesday 2nd June – Leigh-on-Sea Community Centre, 11am to 1pm
Wednesday 3rd June – Civic Centre, 8-9am and 5-7pm
Tuesday 9th June – The Royals shopping centre, 10am to 1pm.
There will be short presentations and a chance to find out more, with the help of expert staff from the Council’s fostering team.
Cllr Anne Jones, Executive Councillor for Children and Learning, said:
“We are constantly looking for more foster families in Southend-on-Sea for children who for whatever reason are unable to stay with their birth parent. Fostering fortnight offers a great opportunity to promote the service and encourage more people to come forwards.
“We always need emergency foster placements as well as those who can offer short-term and long- term placements for children from birth to adulthood.
“There is no upper age limit for prospective foster parents and they can come from all walks of life whatever their race, religion, gender, class, sexuality or disability, and may be married, single, in a stable long term relationship, divorced, widowed, in employment or unemployed.
“Most importantly, children need to be placed with those who can understand and promote the cultural, religious, physical and emotional needs and be committed to their long term welfare.
“We would very much encourage anyone who might have considered fostering to come along to the sessions and find out more.
“We are committed to supporting and providing training for our foster carers to make sure they are equipped to enjoy and succeed in this enjoyable and challenging role.”
