Trawler - The New Publication For Leigh-on-Sea

May 21, 2015 by Rich With

Leigh-on-Sea collective pioneers a community-generated crowdfunded publication.

‘Trawler’ is a community-generated publication showcasing stories from and about local people. It’s the latest project devised by the ‘Made in Leigh’ brand; a group of Leigh-on-Sea based freelancers, solo workers, creatives, independent shops and businesses.

Trawler is a twenty four page community-generated tabloid-sized paper. It's not a newspaper, it's not just for local people, it's full of stories to inspire. You won't find stories about big brands or corporations here, these are stories about independent spirit, passion projects, retail startups, these are previously untold stories about remarkable people.

Trawler is a labour of love. Everyone who has contributed - from photographers to designers and writers - has done so for free alongside their day jobs.

A crowdfunding campaign launched today (22nd May) to fund the printing of the first edition of 3,000 copies.
The 24 page launch edition includes articles from entrepreneur Sam Brown about why he quit his job to open a wine shop Vino Vero, there’s a Q&A with productivity expert Laura Sly on how to balance your energies to get things done, a profile of Southend's record shop South, an essay from Ian Sanders on why he likes watching the container ships traveling up the Thames estuary and an article about a remarkable lady by Elisa Adams. There's also photographs by Dan Rubin and Si Brandon, and a cartoon by Dave Walker.

Supporting the crowdfunding campaign costs just £2 and that price includes a copy of the publication.
The crowdfunding campaign launches on Friday 22nd May at 8:30am - http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/trawler
