Half Marathon returns to Southend in June
There is still time to register for Havens Hospices’ Southend Half Marathon which returns for its 24th year on Sunday 9th June.
Havens Hospices which includes Fair Havens Hospice, Little Havens Hospice and The J’s Hospice, cares for children, young people and adults with life-limiting illnesses from across Essex. This free, specialised care is there for as long as it’s needed, within the home and at the charity’s two hospices, but can only continue thanks to people’s kind donations and sponsorship, such as those raised through events like the Southend Half Marathon.
The annual event will take runners along the seafront, which is mainly flat and will be traffic free making it ideal for runners and wheelchair athletes looking to get a personal best.
On the day, families can also get involved with the 3km family fun run which is perfect for all ages and abilities. The fun run is perfect for any family or friends who are coming on the day to support someone running the half marathon as you’ll be back in plenty of time to see them cross the line.
Over 2000 runners took part last year, which was the highest number since the event began, and organisers are hoping for even more supporters to join in this year.
Jane Hopkins, Events Fundraiser at Havens Hospices said “We’re really happy to once again bring the half marathon back to Southend for its 24th year. We have to raise over £100,000 every week to be there for everyone who needs us; so whether you’re running for fun, to remember a loved one or to achieve a personal best, every mile you run will be ‘Making every day count.’”
Registration will be open until Friday 31st May, affiliated runners who register before registration closes pay £21, non-affiliated runners and wheelchair athletes will pay £23. Runners can sign up on the day, but there will be an additional £5 charge.
For more information or to sign up visit www.havenshospices.org.uk/southendhalf or call Jane on 01702 221658.
